PROFESSIONAL BIOGRAPHY
Meadow’s distinguished career spans over three decades, during which she has honed her skills as a leader, administrator, and coach and consultant. In November 2016, Meadow took a pivotal step by founding CoachAbility, which has since expanded to CoachAbility360, LLC—a sports consulting business dedicated to guiding leaders, corporate, administrators, coaches, athletes, and parents through the complex industry landscapes.
Coach Meadow joined the Manzer Basketball Academy in the Spring of 2024 as the Director of the Lady Stars program to inspire young female athletes to excel both on and off the court through basketball skill development, leadership, and teamwork.
In 2023, Meadow resumed her coaching career for one season at Atlantic Collegiate Academy, a new charter school in Myrtle Beach, SC. Her core coaching philosophy was focused on coachability, accountability, and unity—emphasizing “trusting the process.” Known for their discipline, sportsmanship, and relentless effort, her teams consistently demonstrate a high level of commitment on the court.
Previously, Meadow served as Director of Athletics at City College of New York for nearly eight years, where her passion, competitive spirit, and visionary leadership left a lasting impact. Her deep knowledge of the CUNY conference and her “One Team, One Dream” philosophy became a unifying mantra for over 250 student-athletes across 17 teams. Meadow’s commitment to fostering teamwork, camaraderie, and life skills inspired initiatives like the “Bounce-Back” Retention Program and “G.A.M.E.S.” (Giving Athletes Motivation & Education for Success) workshops. Her support of the Student Athletic Advisory Committee sparked numerous beneficial changes for the college community. Meadow also launched Coaches and Captains Retreats in 2009 to support her goal of developing well-rounded student-athletes and empowering them as leaders beyond sports.
Before her role at City College, Meadow was the Associate Athletic Director and Head Women’s Basketball Coach at Hunter College for nearly 17 years. As head coach for 13 seasons, she led the Hawks to eight regular-season league titles, five conference championships, four NCAA Tournament appearances, and two ECAC bids, making her the winningest women’s basketball coach in Hunter’s history and the first to secure an NCAA Division III Championship bid. Meadow’s success brought regional and national acclaim to Hunter, and she earned numerous accolades, including three CUNYAC Coach of the Year awards, Skyline Conference Coach of the Year, and Metropolitan Writers Association Division III Coach of the Year in 2003.
Meadow’s dedication extends beyond athletics. She has served on multiple nonprofit boards and CUNYAC committees (including chairing the Eligibility Committee), as well as various university committees. Additionally, she served on the NCAA Women’s Basketball National Committee and was affiliated with organizations such as the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics, National Intramural Recreation Sports Association, National Association of Collegiate Women Athletic Administrators, and the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association.
A New York City native, Meadow holds a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Oneonta State College, where she was a standout in basketball and softball, and an M.S. Ed. in Recreation Administration from Lehman College and resides in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
MY STORY
I vividly recall my first coaching opportunity in 1979 as a high school rookie. I was entrusted with coaching the CYO girls’ 5th and 6th-grade basketball team at St. Joan of Arc in Queens, NY, and led them to a championship victory. Debbie, who later went on to a successful college career, was undoubtedly the most dominant player on the team. It would have been easy to let her take every shot and overwhelm the other teams. But even at that early stage in my coaching journey, I quickly learned that success wasn’t just about winning—it was about making sure everyone felt included. My focus was on involving every player, ensuring that they all experienced the “elation of victory” or the “agony of defeat” together. Though I didn’t realize it at the time, I was helping to build their self-confidence, while also creating an environment where the girls were motivated by the joy of competition and having fun.
While many people consider Christmas their favorite day of the year, my favorite day has always been, and still is, October 15th—the first official day of basketball season. On October 15, 1982, during my junior year of high school, I had just laced up my new leather Adidas high-tops with blue stripes, ready for the season to begin. Then came the disappointing announcement that the school didn’t have a head coach, and we might have to cancel the season. The thought of canceling basketball was like canceling Christmas for me.
As I had done throughout my career, I stepped up, and my leadership skills and determination kicked in. Through persistent persuasion, I convinced the girls’ volleyball coach to step in as the head basketball coach. Though Coach R’s basketball knowledge was limited, she agreed to save the season, giving me the opportunity to coach the team behind the scenes. I developed practice plans, organized team bonding activities, and learned invaluable life lessons through adversity, all while helping lead the team to the PSAL playoffs. That season was a defining moment for me. I knew from then on that coaching was my true calling.
Fast forward to 1988, when I served as the Program Director at the YMCA of Greater NY in Brooklyn. There, I truly grasped the power of group dynamics and the positive impact team building can have on individuals united for a common cause. Since then, I have led hundreds of leadership retreats, team-building activities, and character education sessions, positively influencing the lives of thousands of students across NYC and Myrtle Beach, SC.
Over the years, my passion for coaching has expanded beyond working with student-athletes to include corporate leaders, administrators, coaches, and youth organizations. As a college athletic administrator for over 25 years, I applied the same coaching principles to build successful programs, enhance the skills of administrative staff, and mentor other coaches. My mission has always been to serve as a change agent, helping stakeholders to reach their highest potential for success.
