Coach Development – “Coaching the Coaches”
Being a successful coach is a huge challenge. Sports administrators, parents, athletes, and entire communities all have high expectations of today’s coaches. Good intentions are not enough for success, coaches need to take a holistic approach and attain all the knowledge they can get. Most seasoned coaches have learned the skills of coaching through years of trial and error. Coach*Ability will use effective coaching principles to help coaches shorten the learning process, reduce the painful errors and give them the guidance, knowledge and wisdom of successful coaches.
“WHAT HAPPENS IN A COACH DEVELOPMENT SESSION?”
- Discuss the holistic approach to coaching to include team development
- Assess the coach’s strengths, weaknesses, and areas of improvement
- Work closely to help develop a coaching philosophy
- Assist with defining core values
- Discover coaching methods, styles, and approaches to help with self-exploration
- Learn effective practice planning and teaching progressions
- Assist with defining the season’s goals, objectives, and strategies
- Explore player development – character, leadership, teamsmanship, and sportsmanship
- Engage in creative solutions to resolve conflicts and challenges
- Learn self-regulation skills for emotional, mental, and physical control
- Discuss how coaches handle sensitive topics – i.e.: domestic violence, sexual orientation issues, mental illness, race relations, addiction intervention, eating disorders
- Learn to replace negative thought patterns with positive ones
- Help you realize higher levels of confidence
- Learn how to manage the expectations of supervisor, parents, and the community at large
